1950年7月，美国空军第18战斗轰炸机联队第12战斗轰炸机中队进驻朝鲜，该中队装备着F-51“野马”战斗轰炸机，主要执行对地支援任务。与其他部队不同，该中队从1950年7月到1953年7月一直在朝鲜半岛作战，战斗期间并未换装喷气式飞机，一直装备F-51“野马”战斗轰炸机，直到1953年1月，该中队才接收第1架F-86战斗机进行转换训练。
