《生化危机5》是《生化危机》系列第6部正统作品，。于2009年3月5日在日本发售及3月13日在北美和欧洲发售。在日本，PS3版首周销量为36万，为PS3当时历来首周销量第二位，而Xbox 360版则为8万7千。
2016年6月Capcom在PS4和Xbox One上重新发售了本作;该版本的简体中文版于2018年2月27日发售PS4版本，同时Xbox One版本免费更新。
