1946年3月1日，东北民主联军航空学校成立，后来被习惯称为“东北老航校”，也是空军航空大学的前身！他们用马车牵引飞机，用打气筒给飞机轮胎充气，用酒精代替航油飞行……在抗美援朝战争中，令美国空军闻风丧胆的6位战斗英雄中，有5位来自这里。
