渝昆高铁建设进入最后冲刺阶段，云南段桥梁已全部架设完成，无砟轨道顺利完工，正转入铺轨施工。全线预计2026年底建成通车，届时重庆至昆明将从5小时压缩至2.5小时左右，西南地区将迎来“2.5小时交通圈”。
