【内容提要】
阎应元，南明抗清义军首领。曾任江阴典史，因爱民如子，被人称颂。弘光元年，吴三桂引清兵入关，江南也陷入清军铁蹄之下。阎典史被推荐为义军首领。他足智多谋，不受南明降将刘良佐的诱降，带领军民，守江阴城八十一日，抗敌到最后，直至壮烈战死。
