1984年3月11日22点零4分，兰州炼油厂第三单身宿舍茶炉房3号茶炉爆炸、简体飞出，致死4人，伤3人。事故发生后，省、市公安、劳动部门联合进行现场勘查，并委托兰石研究所对炉体进行全面理化鉴定，认定：此次爆炸事故的直接原因是茶炉工钟桂香违反劳动纪律，擅离岗位2个多小时，致茶炉烧干，后又违章加水引起爆炸。
