A bamboo whip labeled "listen to mom" has triggered heated discussion after appearing on Yonghui Superstores' online mini-program, drawing criticism over its implied use in child discipline.
Priced at 8.9 yuan (about $1.20), the product description promotes it as a "70s–90s childhood memory", emphasizing its flexibility, durability and what the seller calls emotional value, while claiming it carries no harmful guidance.
In the comment section, some buyers jokingly referred to it as a "childhood memory gift set", with one user writing that after buying it, the kid started behaving.
Customer service staff explained that the product is meant to be used during communication with children, adding that many buyers purchase it for disciplining children, while others use it as a decorative item.
The product quickly reminded many internet users of their own childhood experiences.
Some jokingly described it as a symbol of a "complete childhood".
At the same time, many users voiced opposition to corporal punishment, arguing that children should be guided through explanation and understanding rather than physical force.
