对此Stats Foot的统计指出，法国队此前唯一一次在世界杯上与塞内加尔交手发生在2002年韩日世界杯的小组赛中，当时他们0-1失利。
此外，法国队近4次在世界杯小组赛中对阵非洲球队输了3场，仅取得过1场胜利(2006年德国世界杯小组赛第三轮法国2-0多哥)。
