11月16日，男子400米自由泳预赛，山东队张展硕以3分49秒92位列第二。潘展乐以3分51秒64 位列第五，亚洲纪录保持者孙杨则以3分52秒90位列第八。预赛前十名选手有九位“00后”。
预赛中，潘展乐与孙杨同组，且赛道相邻。预赛结束后，二人在泳池握手。
