阿奎尔于1981年首轮状元秀被达拉斯独行侠队选中，先后效力达拉斯独行侠（1981-1989），底特律活塞（1989-1993），洛杉矶快船（1993-1994），3次入选NBA全明星，最好战绩为1989年、1990年NBA总冠军。
