Computer, or digital, screens are common at work, homes, schools, and stores. An estimated 104 million Americans of working age spend more than seven hours a day in front of screens, the American Optometric Association says.
All that screen time can cause harm.Too much screen viewing can lead to dry or watery eyes, unclear vision and headaches. It can also lead to vision conditions including myopia, or nearsightedness, especially in children.
Some technology workers even describe short times of dizziness or vertigo when they look at screens for too long. However, exposure to blue light from digital screens has not been shown to cause permanent eye damage, the American Academy of Ophthalmology says. One reason for the screen-linked vision problems lies in the eye muscles.Staring closely at screens for long amounts of time can cause the muscle used for eye focus to become too tense, or tight.

Thunderstorm Safety Look for shelter, such as a building or car. No matter what, do not take shelter under trees because trees attract lightning.lf you are in the open, never lie down on the ground during a storm, because after lightning strikes, it usually spreads out on the ground. The safest position is to put your feet close together and crouch down with your head as low as possible, curled up in a tight squat.
Do not stand on a hilltop or open field. lf you are in or on the water, get out or get off. Do not carry anything made of metal. Do not use the telephone. If lightning strikes the phone line, the strike can travel to you if you are holding the phone. lf you must call someone, use a cordless phone or a cell phone. Do not use electrical appliances.Lightning could follow the wire. Stay away from plumbing pipes (sink, bathtub, or shower). Lightning can cause an electrical charge in the metal pipes.

From the beginning of time, a rock had sat high on top of a mountain. The sun, the moon, Heaven, and Earth all worked their magic on the rock. One day the rock split open. Inside was a monkey. The monkey stood up and stretched. Suddenly powerful light shot from his eyes. For a moment the light reached the Cloud Palace in Heaven.
The Jade Emperor, ruler of Heaven, sat up. He turned to one of his captains, who was standing nearby."Find out what caused that light," said the emperor."Yes, Your Majesty," said the captain. The captain rushed out of the hall. He looked out the southern gate of Heaven and saw the monkey on Earth below. The light was gone. But the captain had magical sight. He could see everything that had just happened."Interesting," said the captain.
"Well?"said the Jade Emperor when the captain returned. "What caused the light?""It was a monkey," said the captain.

Today, I want to talk about two words: passion and persistence. Passion is like a fire in our hearts-it makes us eager to learn painting, play music, or even solve math problems. But remember: even the brightest fire needs fuel. That fuel is persistence.
Take Li Ziqi, a famous vlogger, as an example. She loved traditional Chinese culture, so she learned to cook, weave, and farm. At first, her videos weren't perfect, but she kept trying. Now millions admire her skills. Her story shows: passion gives us direction, but persistence turns dreams into reality.
For us students, it might mean practicing English daily or doing homework every day. When challenges come, remember: passion gives you courage, and persistence gives you power. Believe in your love for what you do, and never stop trying. Together, they'll take you further than you imagine!

One invention often leads to another invention. For an example, let's look at the wheel. Long ago, the only way people could get from place to place was to walk. It could take days to walk long distances. Then, someone invented the wheel.
Next, people started putting wheels on logs and boards. These simple carts made it easier to carry goods and people over long distances. Then people started using horses, oxen, or mules to pull the carts. Riding on carts was less work than walking and made it easier for travel.
In the 1800s, the gasoline engine was invented. The engine could be placed on carts and used to power them. Mules, horses, and oxen were not needed as much. Engines have led to the invention of many other things that help move people and goods from place to place. Some of these inventions are steamboats, cars, trains, and airplanes. These inventions helped people and goods cross whole continents in just a few days.

Action figures, building bricks, stuffed cuddly animals – there's a whole world of toys that many of us have forgotten since we were children."Do you still have any toys from when you were a boy, Phil? " "Erm, a couple, but I gave them to my kids."Well, nowadays, grown-ups playing with toys is more common than you might think.Recent estimates suggest that adults buying kids' toys for themselves account for between 30 and 40% of the entire toy market,so many that advertisers have come up with a term for them: kidults – adults who are interested in toys and games intended for children.
Between last October and December alone, American kidults spent over 1.5 billion dollars on toys for themselves. Among the most popular were plush toys, or plushies for short – toy dolls or animals made from cloth and filled with soft material. And like other recent trends, the toy trend is being driven by online shoppers and social media.

Monkey sailed over the ocean for a longtime. Finally he arrived at a new land. He walked for many years, visiting towns and meeting people. But he didn't find a sage anywhere. Eventually he came to mountains covered in thick forest. He headed up a steep mountain trail and soon heard chopping.
A woodcutter was chopping firewood."Hello," said Monkey. "Are there any sages in these mountains?"
The woodcutter dropped his ax."You're . . . a monkey!" he said. "And you're talking!""Yes, I am," said Monkey. "And I want to live forever. Do you know where I can find a sage?"
The woodcutter scratched his head. "Well, yes," he said. "A sage named Subodhi lives on this mountain. He is very wise."Monkey was excited."Where can I find him?""Just follow this trail, and you will come to his home," said the woodcutter.

Most of what I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate mountain, but there in the sandbox at nursery school. These are the things I learned:
Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life.
Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some. Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the plastic cup? The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.

Back in the 90s, there was no word to cover all the items I used to binge on. Some of the things I over-ate -- crisps or chocolate or fast-food burgers -- could be classified as junk food, but others, such as bread and cereal, were more like household staples.
These various foods seemed to have nothing in common except for the fact that I found them very easy to eat a lot of, especially when sad. As I ate my Pringles and my white bread, I felt like a failure for not being able to stop.
I had no idea that there would one day be a technical explanation for why I found them so hard to resist. The word is "ultra-processed" and it refers to foods that tend to be low in essential nutrients, high in sugar, oil and salt and liable to be over-consumed.

Many people say dolphins are intelligent. They seem to be able to think, understand, and learn things quickly. But are they as smart as humans, or are they more like cats and dogs? Dolphins use their brains quite differently from the way people do. But scientists say dolphins and humans are alike in some ways. How?
Communication
Like humans, every dolphin has its own "name." The name is a special whistle. Each dolphin chooses a whistle for itself, usually by its first birthday. Dolphins are like people in other ways, too. They "talk" to each other about a lot of things--such as their age, their feelings, and possible danger. They also use a system of sounds and body language to communicate. Understanding dolphin conversation is not easy for humans. No one"speaks dolphin" yet, but some scientists are trying to learn.
Play
Dolphins live in groups called pods, and they often join other dolphins from different pods to play games and have fun-just like people.
