Over 1.2 million among its 4.2 million population voluntarily provided critical logistics to the People's Liberation Army by transporting supplies, building roads and caring for the wounded – 95-year-old Wang Kechang was among them. Their immense contribution was considered a decisive factor in key victories like the Huaihai Campaign.
