川青铁路是“八纵八横”高铁网兰（西）广通道的重要组成部分，青海段是川青铁路建设中的一处关键段落，地处青藏高原东部边缘，线路地质极端复杂，穿越3条断层，面临高地应力、软岩变形、膨胀岩层、岩爆、涌水等挑战，桥隧比高达93.26%。
