Deep in the historic Mejorada neighborhood of Merida, Mexico, Casa Amate 61 is like an open book of time, fusing the Art Deco style of the 1920s to 1940s with the contemporary Mexican spirit into a tangible spatial narrative. Architect Fernando García and interior designer Steisy Echeverría used two courtyards as the axis, allowing the century-old building to become a spiritual container that carries cultural memory and the warmth of the traveler in the interweaving of geometric rhythm and regional texture.

Entering the hotel, the two courtyards are like the dual themes of a piece of music, playing the prelude of the fusion of the old and the new. The front yard inherits the weight of history, building a gentle transition between the restored original building and the newly built part. It is not only the reception lobby of the restaurant and the hostel, but also the stage for the dialogue of time - the symmetrical patterns in the Art Deco style stretch on the wall, and the mottled texture of the handmade cement floor tiles seems to be able to hear the footsteps of the past years. The backyard is a symbiotic field of nature and humanity. The sunlight filtered by the celosía screen weaves flowing light spots on the ground, and the bamboo furniture sways gently in the breeze, creating a quiet harbor for travelers to isolate from the hustle and bustle. When dusk falls, the courtyard lights interweave with the starry sky, and this becomes a warm corner for guests to sit and chat, allowing the loneliness of the journey to quietly melt away in the shared tranquility.

The celosía grille is the soul symbol of the entire project. These geometric hollow wooden structures are not only a contemporary translation of the Art Deco decorative language, but also a vivid continuation of the wisdom of Mexican architecture. In the main circulation area, the grille is like a flexible veil, which not only ensures natural ventilation, but also allows light to cast light and shadow paintings on the walls and the ground that change with time, realizing the dual functions of "invisible air conditioning" and "breathing decoration". The Art Deco style pattern on the facade forms a material dialogue with the grille. The warm texture of Tzalam wood and cedar wraps the building, balancing the solemnity of history and the affinity of nature. Each window continues the geometric aesthetics of Art Deco. The wooden window frame outlines neat lines in the sun, framing the outdoor courtyard scenery into a moving painting, so that every time you look up in the guest room, you can see the mark of time.

The interior space is a symphony of materials. The soft tones of "rosa mexicano" cover the walls like the morning sun, injecting a warm emotional background into the space. The custom-made doors made of Tzalam wood and cedar bear the marks of tree rings, and the slight sound when pushed open seems to be a whisper of nature; the delicate texture of bamboo furniture and the handmade patterns of petatillo fabrics tell the warmth of the fingertips of local craftsmen. In the guest rooms, the hand-woven artisan fabrics and the rough texture of cement tiles form a delicate contrast. The embedded ambient lights gently illuminate the texture of the materials, allowing travelers to feel the cultural texture of southeastern Mexico through touch and gaze. These materials derived from the region are not only decorative elements, but also the designer's understanding of "home" - even if you are in a foreign country, you can find a sense of belonging in your heart through the warmth of the materials.

From the flow of light and shadow on the grille to the tranquility of the wood texture, from the shared warmth of the courtyard to the private comfort of the guest rooms, the design of Casa Amate 61 has never deviated from the respect for humanistic memory. The designer weaves his fascination with Art Deco and his deep affection for Mexican culture into every line and texture, making this century-old building not only a museum displaying decorative arts, but also a spiritual home for travelers to rest their bodies and minds. Here, history is no longer a cold specimen, but is integrated into the daily life, making every stay a deep dialogue with the regional culture.
