Deer Harbor Residence is located on the west side of Orcas Island in Washington State, USA. It was renovated by Prentiss Balance Wickline Architects, which reshaped the original main house, guest house, studio and garage into an exquisite island retreat in harmony with nature. The design is centered on "dialogue between light and nature" and creates a modern residence that is both open and transparent and full of private warmth through the integration of spatial reconstruction, material innovation and sustainable technology.

鹿港住宅（Deer Harbor Residence）坐落于美国华盛顿州奥卡斯岛西侧，由 Prentiss Balance Wickline 建筑事务所操刀改造，将原有主屋、客屋、工作室和车库重塑为与自然和谐共生的精致岛屿 retreat。设计以 “光与自然的对话” 为核心，通过空间重构、材料革新与可持续技术的融合，打造出既开阔通透又充满私域温度的现代居所。

The building retains the original stacked four-slope roof structure, with horizontal lines echoing the gentle terrain of the island. The exterior wall uses a combination of thermally modified wood (Kebony) and cement fiber board (Equitone): the former conveys a natural texture with a dark brown tone, and the latter injects a modern atmosphere with a light gray texture. The collision of new and old materials forms a unique visual level.

建筑保留了原始层叠的四坡屋顶结构，以水平向线条呼应岛屿的平缓地势。外墙采用热改性木材（Kebony）与水泥纤维板（Equitone）的组合：前者以深棕色调传递自然质感，后者以浅灰肌理注入现代气息，新旧材质的碰撞形成独特的视觉层次。

The breakthrough design lies in the "modern incision" in the middle of the building - a vertical line running through the north and south: the ground floor is cut into a covered porch as a welcoming entrance; the upper floor is extended to a cantilevered terrace, facing the magnificent sea view of the San Juan Islands. This "incision" breaks the closedness of traditional architecture, just like "editing" the natural landscape into the living scene.

突破性设计在于建筑中部的 “现代切口”—— 一条贯穿南北的垂直动线：底层切入形成带顶 porch，作为迎宾玄关；上层延伸为悬挑露台，直面圣胡安群岛的壮丽海景。这一 “切口” 打破了传统建筑的封闭性，如同将自然景观 “剪辑” 进生活场景。

The heavy stone walls that blocked the view in the original building were replaced by large areas of glass, and the vertical window panes re-divided the proportions of the facade, framing the layered views of the water, treetops and gardens. The sliding glass door system becomes a magic of space - when the door is completely hidden, the indoor living area is seamlessly connected with the outdoor deck and pool terrace, forming a "mobile social venue" of more than 100 square meters. At night, the terrace's embedded lighting outlines the outline, and the building is like a light box suspended above nature.

原建筑中阻断视野的重石墙体被大面积玻璃取代，竖条形窗格重新划分立面比例，框选出水面、树梢与花园的层叠景致。滑动玻璃门系统成为空间魔法 —— 当门扇完全隐藏，室内起居区与户外甲板、泳池露台无缝衔接，形成超百平米的 “流动社交场”。夜晚，露台嵌入式照明勾勒轮廓，建筑如悬浮于自然之上的光盒子。

The white oak floor and light grey steel beams set the tone, and the fir forest outside the floor-to-ceiling windows becomes a natural background wall. The custom L-shaped fabric sofa is arranged around the real fire fireplace, and the low proportion of the furniture enhances the sense of depth of the space.
以白橡木地板与浅灰钢构梁架奠定基调，落地窗外的冷杉林成为天然背景墙。定制的 L 型布艺沙发围绕真火壁炉布置，低矮家具比例强化空间纵深感。

The island is designed as an integrated unit, with the quartz countertop extending to the outdoor bar. The brass chandelier and brushed stainless steel kitchenware form a material dialogue. The hidden cabinet storage system keeps the visuals neat, and the wine cabinet under the center island becomes a social focus.

采用岛台一体化设计，石英石台面延伸至户外吧台，黄铜吊灯与拉丝不锈钢厨具形成材质对话。隐藏式橱柜收纳系统保持视觉整洁，中岛下方的酒柜成为社交焦点。

Curved floor-to-ceiling windows frame the bay view, wool carpets and fabric lazy sofas create a sense of privacy, and adjustable wall lamps meet all-day reading needs.

以弧形落地窗框选海湾景致，羊毛地毯与布艺懒人沙发营造私密感，可调节壁灯满足全天候阅读需求。

The master suite is a design masterpiece: the bedroom on the second floor creates a "floating feeling on the treetops" through the high ceiling design and panoramic glass. The background wall of the headboard is made of gradient stained oak, which changes from light gold to amber as the light changes. The bathroom is paved with warm gray marble, and the independent bathtub faces the sea, with atomized glass to ensure privacy.
主套房是设计的神来之笔：位于二层的卧室通过挑高设计与全景玻璃，营造 “树梢上的悬浮感”。床头背景墙采用渐变染色橡木，随光线变化呈现从浅金到琥珀的色调流动。卫浴间以暖灰色大理石铺陈，独立浴缸正对海面，搭配可雾化玻璃保障隐私。

The guest bedroom and studio continue the minimalist style: the guest bedroom uses a Murphy bed design to free up space, and the walls are painted with writable magnetic paint; the studio has a whole wall of bookshelves next to the window, and the foldable desk can be unfolded into a conference table as needed, and the top track spotlight system meets the professional lighting needs for drawing and reading.
客卧与工作室延续极简风格：客卧以墨菲床设计释放空间，墙面采用可书写的磁性涂料；工作室临窗设置整面书架，折叠式办公桌可根据需求展开为会议桌，顶部轨道射灯系统满足绘图与阅读的专业照明需求。

The entrance abandons traditional hard paving and connects native vegetation with gravel paths, leading visitors through wildflowers and low shrubs to the porch. The covered corridor connecting the main house and the garage is made of permeable concrete, and salt-spray-resistant coastal plants are planted on both sides. The waterfront garden replaces lawns with native meadows, and rainwater seeps into the ground through ecological ditches, restoring the natural hydrological cycle of the island.

入口处摒弃传统硬质铺装，以砾石小径串联原生植被，引导访客穿过野花丛与低矮灌木抵达 porch。连接主屋与车库的带顶廊道采用透水性混凝土，两侧种植耐盐雾的海滨植物。滨水花园以本土草甸替代草坪，雨水通过生态沟渠渗入地下，还原岛屿的自然水文循环。

The design philosophy of Lukang Residence is to intervene in nature with a humble attitude and activate the soul of old buildings with modern methods. Here, every window is a frame, and every piece of material tells a sustainable story. Buildings are no longer containers that isolate the inside and the outside, but a "natural theater" that allows light, sea breeze and the flow of four seasons to become the script of life. It proves that true luxury does not lie in piling up, but in allowing residents to achieve a deep reconciliation and resonance with the land, climate and time.

鹿港住宅的设计哲学，在于以谦逊的姿态介入自然，用现代手法激活旧建筑的灵魂。在这里，每一扇窗都是取景框，每一块材料都讲述着可持续的故事，建筑不再是隔绝内外的容器，而是让光线、海风与四季流转成为生活脚本的 “自然剧场”。它证明，真正的奢华不在于堆砌，而在于让居住者与土地、气候、时光达成深度的和解与共鸣。
