当地时间6月3日，津巴布韦国家公园与野生动物管理局表示，为控制象群数量过剩，将在东南部一处保护区率先捕杀约50头大象。数据显示，该国萨韦谷保护区已容纳2550头大象，远超生态承载力。官方称，象肉将分发给周边社区，象牙由国家保管，不得交易。
