北京时间4月16日，在NBA西部七八名附加赛中，勇士队以121-116击败了灰熊队。在比赛中，灰熊队当家球星莫兰特一度崴伤脚踝，但是他坚持完成了比赛，并砍下22分。
在赛后接受采访时，作为对手的德雷蒙德-格林给予了莫兰特很高的评价，他说道：“莫兰特‘有一颗雄狮般的心’，他能回归比赛并不让我感到惊讶。”
“他的名言是‘勇攀高峰’（run up the chimney），我对此表示非常尊重，因为他从来都不会知难而退。”
