1998年，Couteur等提出老年人用药四大原则，即五种药物原则、半量原则（甚至考虑少量原则）、暂停原则、试验用药原则。2003年，蹇在金教授在此基础上，针对老年人容易发生ADR的特点及根据临床用药环节，提出了老年人用药六大原则，以提高老年人用药安全性。
