江南贡院，位于夫子庙东，为明清两代乡试、会试的考场.中央为明远楼，东西两侧有考生号舍20644间，正门外两石坊额各为“明经取士”和“为国求贤”。
每逢乡试,考生达两万人,“文物蔚然,为廿三行省之冠”。
