1992年11月，海峡两岸关系协会与台湾海峡交流基金会，达成了“海峡两岸同属一个中国，共同努力谋求国家统一”的共识，即“九二共识”。中共中央总书记、国家主席、中央军委主席习近平多次强调，坚持一个中国原则和“九二共识”，推动两岸关系和平发展。周报君摘录了2017年以来习近平关于两岸关系的经典语录，中英双语内容如下：
In November 1992, the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and the Straits Exchange Foundation based in Taiwan, the non-governmental organizations authorized by the mainland and Taiwan to engage in talks regarding cross-Straits exchanges, reached a consensus that "both sides of the Taiwan Straits belong to one China and will work together toward national reunification." This agreement is known as the 1992 Consensus.
President Xi Jinping has stressed on multiple occasions that the mainland will uphold the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, and work for the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations. Xi is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission. Edited excerpts of Xi's speeches on this topic since 2017 follow:
