上世纪80年代，年轻时的释永信在少林寺习武时的照片。释永信是安徽人，1981年披剃出家，年轻时的释永信奋发有为，1987年他牵头发起了“少林寺武术队”，后发展为“少林寺武僧团”并任团长。
可以说释永信年轻时不仅武艺高强，而且为少林寺的发扬光大做出了很大贡献，这也是他后来能当上少林寺住持的原因。
