台湾动物社会研究会日前在网上发起“别让巨口鲨灭绝”活动，抗议政府放任渔船毫无节制捕抓珍贵物种。文宣指出巨口鲨和保育类鲸鲨一样巨大，行动温和、缓慢，却更为罕见；有关资料显示，全世界由1976年起，有记录的巨口鲨仅有226只，其中145只在台湾海域被人为捕获，占全球纪录64％，而且主要有4艘渔船在花莲外海猎捕巨口鲨。
