我很少看综艺，但《乘风破浪的姐姐》成功攻克了我。湖南台邀请了三十多位在娱乐圈摸爬滚打已久的女明星，让她们「回炉重造」，组团出道。《南 华早报》在正文第三段介绍了这档综艺。
Announced last week, the reality show – whose title Chengfengpolang De Jiejie, roughly translates as “sisters riding the winds and breaking the waves” – will feature 30 Chinese female stars who are – gasp – over 30, vying for a spot in a five-member band. The programme will air in June.
情怀分肯定有很大因素，比如陈松伶、宁静。而这些情怀们也真的没有令我失望。流光易逝，韶华不再，她们反而更有魅力。而这种魅力来源于自己的「底气」。「底气」又来源于什么？相貌？作品？家境？夫婿？
你会因为一个人好看，而忍不住想多看他/她亮眼，甚至会偏心于他/她。但真正让你这份喜欢能在岁月沉淀后仍不褪色的还要靠他/她的实力。
我很长时间都无法理解陈松伶的美，因为她红得太早，小时候看港片，很少会见到她。而且她喜欢短发示人，跟我小时候对女生的想象很不相符。长大后才逐渐领略她的实力，唱演俱佳，待人和善，活得单纯、透明。
小栗子非常喜欢《黄河绝恋》，宁静凭这部影片捧得金鸡奖最佳女主角。另一个则是《孝庄秘史》的大玉儿，用现在的话来说，大玉儿就是「美强惨」的集合体，霸气、美艳、聪明、睿智、心计，真正的大女主是也。

这部综艺的英文片名，新加坡的 Today 是这么翻译的：Older Sisters Who Brave the Winds and Waves。brave 用作动词，表示 to deal with a difficult, dangerous, or unpleasant situation 「勇敢地面对」。brave the winds and waves 就是「勇敢面对风浪」。这个词的寓意多好！还不抓紧记住，用在写作中，多抢眼啊。
《南 华早报》则直译为 "sisters riding the winds and breaking the waves”，用了 ride 和 break 两个动词，分别对应「乘」和「破」。但英语中，表示「借风前行」的 ride the wind 很少用到。而且，我咨询了一位外国教授，ride the wind 和 break the wave 一般不会同时出现，所以，母语为英语的人士看到这句话会一头雾水。
而新加坡的译文保留了「浪」这个意象的同时，精准表达出「乘风破浪」的含义。如果不保留意象的话，还可以译为 overcome the odds。因为汉语中的「乘风破浪」被用来形容不怕困难，勇往直前的精神。这里的 odds 相当于 difficulties。不过，这样的翻译就不如刚才 brave the wind 形象了。
《唐顿》第二季的圣诞特别篇有 brave 作动词时的用法。

Show business can be notoriously unforgiving in its treatment of female stars of a certain age. Paparazzi train their camera lenses on the wrinkles and crow’s feet on their once-unlined faces; good roles become scarce as they grow older, with many missing out on parts in major films and TV series; and once their names disappear from the screen or music charts, they are written off as has-beens.
这篇报道是上月宣发的时候所写，开头没有直接介绍节目，而是站在女性的角度，感性地介绍了演艺圈女星的现状。演艺圈向来对上了年龄的女明星异常苛刻，狗仔队会把 lenses 镜头对准女明星们的皱纹、鱼尾纹。我们家之前订报纸，在娱乐版，几乎天天都会看到「某某尽显疲态」「某某笑出鱼尾纹，令人尴尬」，这些某某大多是女明星。形容上了年纪的男星，娱记们却宽容很多。用端水大师晓明的话来说：这些皱纹是「加分项」，彰显男性成熟魅力。
女星们不得不面临事业危机：她们已经很久没有接到好角色或者好制作了。她们的名字从屏幕上淡出，成了「过去式」。

演艺圈，或者用 the entertainment 来表示。
02 unforgiving
可以用来形容人「不饶人的，不宽容的」，也可以指某个局面 unpleasant and causing difficulties for people「让人为难的；难应付的；棘手的」，和 tricky, precarious 类似。
Business is a competitive activity. It is very fierce and very unforgiving.
商场如战场，竞争激烈，不近人情。
03 paparazzi
Lady Gaga 写的一首歌名是 Paparazzi《狗仔队》，话说英文的 paparazzi 真是朗朗上口。这个词来源于意大利的一部电影角色人物的名字 Paparazzo，这个角色是一个拍名人私隐的狗仔。而 paparazzi 则是一个复数名词，不止一个狗仔。
04 train
这个 train 很好玩，镜头就像训练有素的士兵一样，看到女明星，自动对焦人家的皱纹。train 在此和 aim 相近，意思是把相机等「对准，瞄准」。
05 crow's feet
我们汉语说眼角的周围是「鱼尾纹」。我个人觉得这个皱纹的名字很美，让人少了些对于皱纹的抵触感。说说而已，我才不想长皱纹。英语中的「眼部皱纹」真的看上去就让人不想拥有，因为他们说鱼尾纹是「乌鸦的脚」！皱纹而已，哪有那么难看！今天不想跟英语成团了……
06 once-unlined
除了 wrinkle，line 也可以表示「皱纹」。once 表示「曾经」，这个词经常和其他词构成复合形容词，表示「曾……的」，比如，once-illustrious brand「辉煌一时的品牌」。所以，once-unlined face 就是「曾经吹弹可破的容颜」。
07 write off
这里的 write off 意思是 to decide that someone or something is useless, unimportant, or a failure「认为某人/某事不行、不重要」，跟 dismiss 相近。使用频率比较低，了解即可。
After six months of work, we eventually wrote the project off as a non-starter.
干了六个月以后，我们最终认为该项目无望成功。
08 has-been(n.)
这个词也很有意思，表示 a person or thing that is no longer popular, successful, effective, etc。中文怎么翻译呢？
我们在汉语中说某件东西、某个人过气，或者前任已经成为过去，常会说「某某成了过去式」，这个「过去式」就是 has-been，可不是「一般过去时」的英文 simple-past 哦。另外，形容人时，我们还可译为「风光不再的人，过气名人」，或者「风靡一时的某物」，比如曾经的翻盖手机。

这里的 C-list 并不是「C 位出道」的意思，而是跟后面的 established 相对。这个词是一位娱记的「杰作」，他把明星分成 A, B, C 三类，所以你是不是猜到 A-list 是什么类型的明星了？没错，A-list 是「顶级实力派」，an actor at the very top of their acting career who has a strong track record of box office successes。C 类则是 “the easy-to-remember but hard-to-name character actor”「眼熟却叫不上名字」的那类明星。这种等级的区分就像是明星间的「阶层」。C-list production 也就是「三流制作」。

celebrated, distinguished, prominent, renowned 这几个单词都是 famous 的替换选择。
11 shoot to fame
shoot to fame 用一句汉语诗词来翻译的话，就是「一举成名天下知」。原本寂寂无名，但因为抓住了机会，靠实力大量圈粉，实现了「明星阶层」的跨越。
rise to fame 跟 shoot to fame 相同，表示 to suddenly become very famous「迅速成名」。

hone 原本是指「磨刀、磨剑」，所以衍生出的释义是 to develop and improve sth, especially a skill, over a period of time 「磨练，训练」，尤指技艺，前不久 TE 一篇文章提到中国的金融业务巨头：腾讯、阿里和平安。
The company, which invests 1% of its revenue—worth $164bn last year—in research and development, has spawned 32 stand-alone businesses to help export the tech it hones at home.

13 buck the trend
这个词组在外刊常遇到，是微博选出的栗词。buck 这个词含义非常多，可以指「美元；澳元」，还可以指「责任」，用作动词时，buck 意为「抵制，反抗」。
One or two companies have managed to buck the trend of the recession.
有一两家公司顶住了经济滑坡的势头。

相比男性，女性更怕衰老，因为衰老就意味着自己要跟「甜美可人」「青春活力」这样的词语挥手再见。
