沙漠猫，是种小型猫科动物，总长大约80厘米，生活在非洲和亚洲的沙漠中。夜晚出去狩猎，以老鼠，蜥蜴，和昆虫为食。在饲养的情况下可生活13年。

外形特征 Description

沙漠猫体长大约50厘米，尾长30厘米，成年平均体重大约在2.7公斤左右。 头部很宽，耳大而尖，体毛呈沙黄色，身上有淡暗色的条纹，有时基本上看不见，在非洲亚种身上最为明显，尾尖的毛是黑色的，脚掌上的长毛防止皮肤被炎热的沙子烫坏。

生态习性 Ecological Habit

沙漠猫白天在石头下休息，夜晚出去狩猎。以老鼠，蜥蜴，和昆虫为食。沙漠猫从他的猎物中得到所有的水。沙漠猫只在交配时聚集，所以要调查它们的数量很难。可以在-5至52摄氏度的温度下生存。

生长繁殖 Growth and Breed

沙漠猫每年繁殖2次，孕期59-66天，平均每胎产2只小猫。人工喂养的沙漠猫寿命为13岁。

地理分布 Distribution

沙猫沙分布在非洲和亚洲的沙漠中。

非洲地区包括：摩洛哥、阿尔及利亚、埃及、突尼斯、利比亚、马里、尼日尔、毛里塔尼亚、塞内加尔、乍得、苏丹、叙利亚。

亚洲地区包括：中亚、里海东部的卡拉库姆沙漠和阿富汗南部。

目前确认有6个亚种：

① Felis margarita margarita，撒哈拉沙漠；

② Felis margarita airensis；

③ Felis margarita harrisoni， 阿拉伯；

④ Felis margarita meinertzhageni；

⑤ Felis margarita thinobia，伊朗；

⑥ Felis margarita scheffeli，巴基斯坦。

沙漠猫的英文介绍 Introduction

The sand cat (Felis margarita), also known as the sand dune cat, is the only cat living foremost in true deserts. This small cat is widely distributed in the deserts of North Africa and Southwest and Central Asia. Since 2002, it has been listed as Near Threatened by IUCN because the population is considered fragmented and small with a declining trend.

Sand cats are found in both sandy and stony desert, living in areas far from water. Having thickly furred feet, they are well adapted to the extremes of a desert environment and tolerant of extremely hot and cold temperatures.
