首次飞行之后，Douglas DC-3很快进入市场，数架美国航企用该机型执行海岸间的航线。在美国参战后，超过600架DC-3迅速转为军事运输机，并更名为C-47。第二次世界大战期间，该机型产量达到数千架，它也是盟军在各个战场的的主力机型。
