10月19日上午，广东交通集团2026年高速公路建设会公布，全省今年计划新开工6个高速公路项目，茂吴高速位列其中。这条高速主线起于高州石鼓镇，经茂南、电白，向南在吴川覃巴镇接上支线，全长约58公里，总投资约87亿元。
全线按双向四车道、设计时速120公里建设，路基宽26.5米。通车后高州到吴川机场将多一条快速通道，高州与湛江的时空距离进一步拉近，沿线产业、文旅也将跟着受益。
