当地时间10月4日，也门政府军发言人马吉德·努扎伊利发表视频声明，宣布打响针对也门胡塞武装的“解放之战”，以“收复国家全部领土、确立完整的国家主权”。当天稍早时候，也门行使总统职权的总统领导委员会主席拉沙德·阿里米在沙特阿拉伯首都利雅得宣布启动军事行动，以收复胡塞武装近期控制的地区。
