Autumn Moods in Qin, Sent to a DistantMonk Friend
By Meng Haoran (Tang Dynasty)

I long to dwell on a green hill,
But lack the means to live there still.

I miss my monk by eastern voice.
My gold is spent like fuel dear,
My lofty dreams fade year by year.
At dusk the cool wind starts to blow,
Cicadas' cry augments my woe.
Note:
1.hermit ground (Three Paths):The allusion of Three Paths originates from Eastern Han records, referring to the secluded residence of a hermit.
2."Gold like cinnamonconsumed" alludes to the idiom "burn cinnamon for fuel," meaningliving costs are exorbitantly high.
