After decades away, the awards honoring the best of Chinese cinema are back in the city where they were first held in 1962. And the energy on the ground is real. The name "Hundred Flowers" has always carried a certain meaning. It speaks to a flourishing of diverse stories and voices. And this year, with the ceremony returning to its birthplace, that message feels particularly resonant.
