A heavily edited profile photo of Lang Xiao'e, a psychiatrist at the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, has gone viral on Chinese social media, drawing both amusement and admiration from netizens.

On Monday, a visit to the hospital found that the stylized photo had been replaced with a natural, makeup-free one in the hospital's appointment system.

According to the hospital's online appointment platform, Lang's profile photo has now been updated twice to better reflect her actual appearance.

Lang, who has received 235 silk banners from grateful patients and more than 87,000 appointment bookings, is fully booked for the coming week. Patients have praised her for her medical expertise, patience and extensive clinical experience.

As the story spread, netizens shared candid photos of Lang at work to compare with the heavily edited profile picture. The contrast between the polished studio-style portrait and the image of a seasoned physician at work sparked a wave of lighthearted reactions online.

"Patients who saw this had their depression cured before even registering," one commenter joked. While clearly tongue-in-cheek, the remark reflected how the unexpected contrast brightened many people's day and challenged the stereotype that psychiatrists are always serious-looking.
