淞沪铁路——中国铁路的开端
1876年7月3日，淞沪铁路（又称吴淞铁路）正式通车运营。这是中国境内第一条营运铁路，自上海经江湾至吴淞，全长约14.5公里，轨距762毫米，由英商怡和洋行以"修筑马路"为名私自修建。通车当日，"先导号"蒸汽机车牵引木质客车缓缓驶出，沿途百姓争相围观，叹为奇观。翌年清政府以28.5万两白银赎回并拆除，但铁路之火已在中国大地点燃。
