北京时间6月27日，世界杯小组赛第三轮，埃及1-1战平伊朗以小组第二出线。至此，埃及队在本届世界杯已创下三大队史纪录，斩获世界杯首胜、首次小组赛不败、首次出线。
此前埃及队参加过3次世界杯。1934年单场淘汰赛2-4不敌匈牙利，1990年小组赛两平一负以小组垫底出局，2018三战全败继续以小组垫底出局，前三届赛事始终没能收获世界杯胜利，也从未从小组赛出线。
