当地时间26日，联合国分管人道主义事务的副秘书长兼紧急救援协调员汤姆·弗莱彻表示，在委内瑞拉发生强烈地震后，已有超过5万人失踪，他认为死亡人数“可能还会大幅增加”。弗莱彻称，“目前有超过5万人失踪，已有500多人遇难；因此，在废墟中搜寻是一项艰巨的任务。”
