《Liber Timbre》

Jury Comments on the Award-Winning Finalists
In Root
You demonstrate a remarkably mature sense of visual storytelling in this campus documentary. Through close observation of people, as well as careful attention to the environment, tools, soil, and plants, you transform a simple campus composting project into a vivid, textured world. This is a film with a distinctive personal aesthetic and style.
Especially commendable is your decision not to rely on voiceover to explain what composting is or why sustainability matters. Instead, the images carry the story. When visuals speak more powerfully than explanations, cinema truly comes alive.
The film weaves bright, youthful moments together with bittersweet reflections on "all good things return to the earth." The color palette and soundtrack are beautifully matched, creating a mood that is contemplative without being sorrowful. This film is not only a technical achievement but also an unusually insightful meditation on life and growth.
Liber Timbre
The film is structurally cohesive, with a clear beginning, middle, and end. It communicates its core message effectively. What makes this film especially compelling is its authenticity. It captures something raw and real, youth in its most vibrant form: the setbacks leading up to the performance, the exhilaration of stepping onto the stage. Both the struggles and triumphs feel strikingly real.
Choosing to center the film around the organizer's personal story was a smart decision. Rather than presenting the project merely as a record of an event, the film seeks to explore the ideas and values behind Liber Timbre itself.
The balance between interview segments and actual event footage could be refined to create a more immersive experience for viewers. In addition, after a lengthy buildup, the film’s climactic turning point does not fully deliver the emotional payoff that the earlier scenes so effectively prepare, which leaves a slight sense of missed potential.
Digital Addiction
You chose a topic that hits close to home for many young people today. Your perspective is fresh, bold, and timely. The "desktop film" format is a clever way to make the invasive presence of digital devices feel tangible and uncomfortable. The editing had real energy, and the first half is especially engaging.
The film would be even more persuasive if the second half relied more on visual storytelling— showing with images rather than telling via on-screen text—to deliver its message. Growth is not taught through preaching—it is understood through what we see and feel. You've already taken a strong first step.
Walking Alongside Students
in Their IB Journey
Drawing on personal experience, the filmmaker captures the essence of education as a journey of growth—an educator growing alongside their students. The film is grounded in strong narrative development, presenting events in a complete and coherent way while clearly tracing the protagonist’s arc of growth. The overall tone is gentle and reflective—creating the feeling of a story being shared like a quiet, unhurried conversation. The film reminds us that true educators are those who become a steady, unassuming source of light in their students’ lives, warmly accompanying the ordinary moments of everyday life.
Because the pacing is fairly even throughout, with little variation in intensity, the narrative can feel somewhat linear. Greater selectivity in structure—along with less reliance on voiceover and background music—could create stronger shifts in rhythm and make the film even more moving.
2026 Shoebox Mission: Supporting a Stray Animal Shelter
This is a short but precise work. What initially appears to be an ordinary delivery gradually reveals the real conditions of a stray-animal shelter. The film does not rely on narration to explain itself; the images speak for themselves. There is a strong documentary quality to it; the visuals are simple, yet they carry both warmth and quiet power. The ending clearly conveys the filmmaker’s perspective.
Further attention to a few individual animals could strengthen the pacing and add greater emotional depth, making the film even more moving. Through simple, personal observation, you have elevated animal rescue from a personal act to a matter of public care and concern.
Furry Survivors
You turned your lens toward lives that are often overlooked in the city. Your choice of topic itself reflects your social awareness and empathy. Through interviews with people from different backgrounds, you helped viewers gain a multidimensional understanding of the issue of stray animals, demonstrating the thoughtful planning that went into structuring the film.
If you choose to continue developing this story, consider focusing on the journey of a single stray dog—from discovery and rescue, to foster care and eventually adapting to a new home. You might also spend more time observing the daily lives of foster families or rescuers themselves. Through the experiences of specific animals and specific people, the audience might feel a deeper sense of connection and responsibility.
Your film already has a clear purpose and a warm emotional tone. We look forward to seeing where you take it next.
