Answer: No, and there has been a sea change（巨变） in the way people chose to view films nowadays which has been reinforced by the recent pandemic when cinemas and theatres were closed. Even before this disaster, many film-goers had the option to pay for online streaming of the latest releases via the internet so they could enjoy the thrills of the cinema but without leaving their sofas. Companies like Netflix and Amazon have led the way in this new trend and now commission films（定制出品影片） and drama series of their own.

Examiner: Should art still play a role in education for students at school, as well as books and films?

Answer: It is true that for many young adults and school children art is not part of their usual education, and they are only able to access an understanding of great, historic and influential paintings（具有历史意义与深远影响力的） if they study art. Many educators argue that art should play as big a role as the appreciation of books or film in the curriculum as art offers an equally valid（合理的） perspective on a country’s cultural background and heritage.

Answer:

When I was a teenager living in Paris, I became obsessed with artistic French films, with Louis Truffaut’s Paris at Midnight standing out as my favourite. Shot in black and white, this movie delivers a dark plot based on black humour and drama.

Unlike my peers, who got absorbed in commercial blockbusters such as James Bond, I took pride in getting to grips with French cinematic traditions and picking up the French language.

Adapted from a bestseller, the film went on to inspire various cartoon spin-offs and follow-up series. Its provocative and unpredictable leading lady kept the plot tension high, complemented by a haunting musical score that later topped music album charts.

This classic drove me to polish my French and dig deeper into Paris’s history and culture. I really enjoyed watching it back then, but in hindsight, I tend to opt for more relaxing, less intellectual films these days.
