广元千佛崖，嘉陵江旁，本是四川开凿历史最长、规模最大的造像群，惜于民国二十四年1935修建川陕路时炸毁过半，又是梁思成1939年紧急上书阻止继续炸崖，保住北段石窟。
石窟始凿于北魏时期，经西魏、北周、隋、唐、五代、宋、元、明、清又不断开凿。其开凿历史之长，居四川首位，也是四川省境内规模最大的石窟群，素有“历代石刻艺术的陈列馆”之称。
