《月令七十二候集解》载“春分，二月中。分者，半也。此当九十日之半，故谓之分。秋同义。”春分“分”有二义：一为“季节平分”，传统以立春至立夏为春季，春分正处其中，平分春季；二为“昼夜平分”，当日太阳直射赤道，昼夜等长各12小时。
