据中国地震台网正式测定，3月11日20时38分在湖南郴州市资兴市发生2.9级地震，震源深度6公里，震中位于北纬25.89度，东经113.41度。
震中5公里范围内平均海拔约276米。
根据中国地震台网速报目录，震中周边200公里内近5年来发生3级以上地震共2次，最大地震是2025年10月3日在湖南邵阳市邵东市(塌陷)发生的3.7级地震（距离本次震中235公里），历史地震分布如图。
