在全球气候持续变暖的大趋势下，寒潮并未如人们预期般逐渐“退场”，反而呈现出新的变化特征。
寒潮平均持续时间有所延长。数据显示，1960—1989年寒潮平均持续时间为3.17天，持续时间5天以上的寒潮过程占比8.15%；1990—2025年寒潮平均持续时间延长至3.29天，增幅3.79%，持续时间5天以上的寒潮过程占比12.74%，较前期增加4.59%。
1960—1989年，全国型寒潮占比达52.7%，高于普通寒潮占比；1990—2025年，全国型寒潮占比下降至49.1%，普通寒潮占比反超至50.9%。数据由国家气候中心提供黄琬婷制图
