北京时间2月2日，日本篮协宣布国家队男篮主教练霍瓦斯下课。
霍瓦斯2021年开始执教日本男篮，2024年巴黎奥运会后续约，原计划执教至2028年洛杉矶奥运会。
2月26日，日本男篮将在世预赛中主场迎战中国男篮。目前，日本男篮两战全胜暂列小组第一，中国男篮两战皆负，凭借小分优势力压中国台北男篮，暂列小组第三。
