特朗普“闭眼”开会，鲁比奥：总统在启动“高效过滤机制”

For years, Donald Trump mocked Joe Biden as "Sleepy Joe", a nickname he repeated at rallies, in interviews and online. This week, the internet turned the joke back on him. Cameras captured Trump sitting through a Cabinet meeting with his eyes closed for long stretches, head dipping forward as officials briefed him.

面对外界关于他“身体不行”的群嘲，特朗普在接受采访时辩解道：不是我老了身体不行，是这届下属不太行。他同时保证，自己听到了全部内容。

按照特朗普的逻辑，他之所以闭眼，完全是因为那场长达3个半小时的会议“简直无聊透顶”。“屋子里坐了28个人，每个人都觉得必须得说点什么。”

特朗普在采访中开启了疯狂吐槽模式，“我不得不坐在那里听他们轮流轰炸。为了让自己看起来还在‘频道’上，我甚至得时不时做点手势。实际上，我内心深处唯一的念头就是：我什么时候能走？”

Trump said he's closed his eyes during Cabinet meetings because they are "boring as hell" but noted this isn't a reflection of his health.

"It's boring as hell; I'm going around a room, and I've got 28 guys — the last one was three and a half hours. I have to sit back and listen, and I move my hand so that people will know I'm listening," Trump told New York magazine.

"I'm hearing every word, and I can't wait to get out," he added.

如果说特朗普的解释是真性情，那么他的下属则展现了极其高超的“说话艺术”。

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said when the White House leader closes his eyes, it's a "listening mechanism" that tunes speakers in rather than drowning them out.

总统副僚长斯蒂芬·米勒表示，特朗普“工作能力更强，记忆力更好，精力更充沛，远超常人。你们报道的标题应该是‘超人总统’”。

The president's deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, said that Trump "can work harder and he has a better memory and he has more stamina and has more energy than a normal mortal. The headline of your story should be 'The Superhuman President.'"

此外，特朗普曾去沃尔特·里德国家医疗中心做了一次全身CT扫描，并宣称医生告诉他结果“非常完美”。在这次采访中，他表示后悔去做了这个体检，因为他觉得“去做检查”这个行为本身，就显得自己很虚弱：“如果我当时不去，就没人能拿我的健康说事。”

During a lengthy interview about his health with New York Magazine, Trump, 79, struggled to remember the term while speaking about his father, Fred Trump, who died in 1999 at 93.

"At a certain age, about 86, 87, he started getting, what do they call it?" Trump asked, pointing to his forehead and looking toward White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

"Alzheimer's," Leavitt replied.

"Like an Alzheimer's thing," Trump agreed. "Well, I don't have it... I don't think about it at all. You know why? Because whatever it is, my attitude is whatever."
