Chinese diving starlet Quan Hongchan helped Guangdong successfully defend the women's team gold medal at the National Games on Sunday.

Quan took part in the synchronized 10-meter platform alongside Wang Weiying in the evening session, with the pair outscoring their rivals to finish on top of the table with 235.86 points.

Chen Yuxi and Zhang Minjie, representing Shanghai, finished second just 0.9 points behind, with 234.96, while another Guangdong pair in Jiang Linjing and Xie Peiling ranked third with 229.26 points.

After claiming gold, Quan posted on social media: "So proud of myself." Footage from the award ceremony showed the diver gently and repeatedly touching her medal, savoring the victory in her first official competition after a five-month break.

Quan last competed in the World Aquatics Diving World Cup Super Final in Beijing in May, before withdrawing from the national championship later that month and the World Championships in Singapore in July due to injuries.

Fans were moved by her comeback, with one commenting, "Tears in my eyes — she's still the best," while another wrote, "Neither injury nor growth spurts could hold Quan Hongchan back."
