当地时间10月2日，伊朗总统佩泽希齐扬前往南部霍尔木兹甘省访问时表示，由于城市规模过度扩张、缺水危机加剧以及地面沉降威胁日益严重，伊朗别无选择，只能将首都从德黑兰迁至南部。
佩泽希齐扬称，他已向伊朗最高领袖哈梅内伊提出，应当将首都向波斯湾方向迁移，并称“迁都不再是选择，而是必然”。
