A high school in Guigang, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, recently awarded a 1 million yuan scholarship to a student admitted to Tsinghua University. However, an internal notice from the city's education bureau later classified the reward as a violation of regulations on publicizing
gaokaoresults.
A staff member confirmed on Tuesday that the notice was intended for internal circulation only and that an inquiry had been launched into how it was leaked. "The high school's actions were non-compliant," the official said. "At the national level, publicizing
gaokaoresults is prohibited, and we have already intervened to stop it."
Chen Zhiwen of the Chinese Society of Education Development Strategy said the Ministry of Education aims to curb such practices to correct misguided evaluation standards, noting that cash rewards often reflect an overemphasis on "elite" resources.
He added that while good teachers are valuable, student success ultimately depends on a willingness to learn and basic behavioral discipline.
