On July 25th, the second China-Latin America Human Rights Roundtable was held in São Paulo, Brazil, where the "São Paulo Consensus on China-Latin America Human Rights Exchanges and Cooperation" was released.
The Consensus holds that technological progress and the application of new technologies should always serve to enhance human well-being, dignity and freedom. Digital technologies and artificial intelligence present both opportunities and challenges for the protection of human rights. It is necessary to ensure that the fruits of technological development benefit the general public more, rather than being monopolized by a few, and to avoid possible new social inequalities and injustices.
Furthermore, a good ecological environment is the most inclusive public welfare. Climate change, environmental pollution and other issues directly affect everyone's right to subsistence, development and the realization of various human rights. We should promote high-quality economic development, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, expand and deepen the development of green industries to benefit both the present and future generations.
