《长命》首发于上海《收获》，即将由译林出版社推出单行本，这也是继《本巴》获第11届茅盾文学奖后交出的最新作品。刘亮程亮相复旦大学研讨会、朵云书院·旗舰店分享会，形容这部小说是“知天命之作”。在接受文汇报记者专访时他说：“到了60岁，听力渐弱，但脑子里的声音逐渐从远处回来了。我也到了能听见钟声的年纪了。”
