黄檗文化起源于明末清初。中国高僧隐元禅师17世纪中叶东渡日本弘扬佛法，并在京都创立黄檗宗大本山万福寺。他不仅传播禅宗思想，还将中国的饮食、书法、建筑、园艺等文化带入日本，深刻影响了当地社会。后世将这些文化成果统称为“黄檗文化”。
