北京时间4月29日，皇马官方发布公告表示，吕迪格成功接受了左腿外侧半月板部分撕裂的手术，根据记者Carlos Rodríguez的最新报道，吕迪格染红的停赛处罚将在他康复期间执行。
此前多家媒体报道称，吕迪格在接受手术后将缺阵6-8周的时间，而Carlos Rodríguez表示，他在国王杯决赛中吃到红牌后所受到的停赛处罚将在他的康复期间执行。
在周日凌晨对阵巴萨的国王杯决赛中，吕迪格在比赛结束后因为向裁判投掷物品被红牌罚下，据西班牙媒体报道，他面临4-12场的禁赛处罚。
