4月10日，菲律宾警方证实知名侨领“钢铁大王”郭从愿被绑架后惨遭撕票。4月9日，警方发现他的遗体，其脸部被胶带缠着疑似曾遭酷刑。
郭从愿的家属曾先后向绑匪支付3次赎金，共计约合人民币2700万元。
与郭从愿相识的一位知情人称，郭从愿60多岁，祖籍福建泉州，是一位有情怀的企业家，基本每年回家乡两三次，为家乡建设捐超2000万元。
