古人用圭表测影来探寻时间的奥秘。元代天文学家郭守敬将圭表放大，修建了河南登封观星台。
根据天南海北的27座观星台，郭守敬将一年的时长定为365.2425天，比绝对时长只差26秒，24节气也得以精确测定。
